Re: An update is available for Internet Explorer that resolves
said by altermatt :Nick, I have that update (974455) installed, and shortly thereafter, had problems with IE crashing upon starting intermittently---but it seems to have cleared up on its own. The symptoms described in the bulletin:
You receive a VBScript "Type Mismatch" script error message in Internet Explorer after you install cumulative security update 974455
are, as another user here said, Greek to me.
Problems that fix themselves are the best sort of problems to have. I'd like some of those.
I'd imagine IE would be tossing you that error message about scripting in certain situations if you were suffering from the issue.
So either you're not, or you just don't know about it yet.
As the fix will be included as part of the next cumulative IE roll-up anyway, and those roll-ups seem to be released pretty regularly, my tack would be to do nothing until/unless such time as IE demonstrated to me that I was afflicted with this problem.
But if I thought I might be but wasn't sure, then yeah, I'd probably install it.
The sense I got from it is that the issue is not universal, but only affects certain specific users or configurations.

Figured it must have been very important since they did not wait until next Tuesday for the normal monthly rollout of patches.
If a person's IE is borked, a person might find him/herself using another browser. Microsoft Corp. likely would prefer that not happen.
Not to mention, as a flagship component of the OS, it reflects poorly on the company if it no workee.
So I'm sure they did feel it was important, as they should have.

I take it, this is for IE7 correct? If it is, I'll ignore, don't care of that POS and haven't installed it anyways.
If you had bothered to read the support article, you would have seen that it's not just for IE7. And what does you not caring for that "POS and haven't installed it anyways" have to do with this update thread? :uhh:

Re: An update is available for Internet Explorer that resolves
said by NICK ADSL UK :Important Do not install this update if you have not installed security update 974455. If you install this update without first installing security update 974455, Internet Explorer may not work correctly. If this occurs, uninstall this update, install security update 974455, and then reinstall this update.

support.microsoft.com/default.as···s;976749 Not an issue if you run Windows Update/Microsoft Update as both portals would detect those pre-requisites for you. It would not offer this new patch without the previous updates. Patch is also available for Windows XP x64 Edition Service Pack 2.

Uhh, because I use Firefox almost exclusively. I rarely use IE 6 (except for Windows Updates) and I haven't installed IE 7, IE 8 or IE 9 or IE 75 :uhh: :uhh:.

And so the question remains.... what are you doing in this update thread for IE then? Trolling?

Why does the link to the download for IE6 on XP SP2 and 3 lead to a download for IE8??? I rechecked to make sure I didn't initially click on an IE8 link. The IE6 link offers an IE8 download
mele, you could check the "file information", for the files that were installed by the update, to see if you have the right ones..
for win xpsp3, the 32-bit version, and IE 6, there is only one file to check, that is significant, "mshtml.dll".. the other one that is listed, "updspapi.dll", is in the the folder that is used for uninstalling the patch..
the "file information" for the files that were installed by the update is on the same webpage that has the links for the download.. just scroll down the page, to find the "file information".. here is a link to the webpage:
