[Niagara] HD and Widescreen

I just got a new HDTV, and was wondering if getting the HD box (not subscribing to the channels) would make all channels show in proper widescreen format, as on the normal box, it has to stretch.. it's not native widescreen. Would getting the HD Box fix this? or would this only work on HD channels, which i would have to subscribe to? Thanks.

Aww wow...that is very disappointing. You would think these days most channels would have a 16:9 broadcast....

cogecos HD channel list is WAY too short to bother paying for. And they wonder why most people would want to download their shows instead ;p

Ah well...guess i'll have to live with it for the few times I watch normal tv lol Thanks for your fast reply.

Not all the channels come in too: TSN2, CH, Global, CFMT and Speed give the "One Moment Please" message and fail to load

Re: [Niagara] HD and Widescreen

Only the HD channels broadcast in true 16:9 and even then, it's not all the time. Global and CH news are still 4:3 even in HD.

All the SD channels are broadcast in 4:3, with some shows in letterboxed 16:9 format. The result is a postage stamp picture in the middle of the screen with black borders all around. The only way to get them to fill the screen is to play around with the various stretch modes on your TV.
