[Internet] How do you bypass 2-Wire 2701HG-G routing functions
Hi,
I just got the Max16 service and got this router. I also have been using my own DLink DIR655 wireless router.
Previously with a speedstream modem, I could reset the speedstream and use it just as a modem and the Dlink would connect using PPPOE and manage all routing and wireless connections.
How can I do this with the 2-Wire modem? Right now the 2-Wire logs in and gets one IP, and the DLink also logs in, showing a different IP. No need to say all my routing settings on the DLink are not working.
I just want to use the 2-Wire device as a dumb modem.
Thanks.

There are a few topics in this forum on how to put the "2wire in bridge mode". Upper right hand corner of this main Bell forum page is a little area called search (wish it was biggER). Try looking for 2wire bridge mode.
There are a couple of methods.
Here are a couple of topics I found using search:
»Re: 2Wire Port Forwarding
»How do I turn off DHCP on 2Wire 2701HG-G
Hope it helps.
If you have questions or need more help on this (after reading those topics), ask away.

A workaround for bridge mode is to configure the 2wire to put the router in dmzplus mode
To do that you would configure the router's internet/wan port for a connection type of dhcp, connect the router's internet/wan port to a 2wire lan port
On the 2wire go to the application support/settings page select the router then select
"Allow all applications (DMZplus mode)"
and reboot the router

We have to rent their modem but we don't have to use it, a simple bride modem works very well.

reboot, reset, reconfigure, then recycle.

That will work just as well as a bridged modem
Just be sure that there are no other application settings configured
Also if you don't need to use the 2wire access point you should disable it
Click the home network icon [att=2,l]
Then click the wireless disable button
[att=1,l]

Re: [Internet] How do you bypass 2-Wire 2701HG-G routing functio
wayjac: for the DHCP'ed router, DMZplus mode is enabled and the hosted applications window is empty, wireless is disabled. As for the advanced settings page (see picture above), what do you recommend? The firewall on the dlink dir655 has been good. Should I disable all the attack detection stuff? Also, am I still double NATting with this setup, and if so, is there any disadvantage?
bytebender: they did offer to send me another modem to test out, dont know which model though. might give it a go.

Re: [Internet] How do you bypass 2-Wire 2701HG-G routing functio
On the advanced settings page you need to uncheck the "stealth mode" and "block ping"
Your router should have a "stealth mode" and "block ping" setting use them instead of the 2wire
Did you change those two settings or is that the default
I would leave the attack detection settings as they are
There is no double NATting with this setup, if you check the wan ip of the router you'll find that the router has the public ip address
