[help] TV Listings Update - Customizing Channels

Anyone know how to change the channels displayed in the new TV Listings guide? Doesn't seem to be an option for it anymore. I want to remove some channels that I don't watch.

Re: [help] TV Listings Update - Customizing Channels

If they changed anything they probably went and took away that or more options.

The more we "advance" or "change for the better" the less options we are given. I hate it but we're screwed no matter what.

Only thing to do is call the call center and complain that you want the option back. It wont do anything but you might feel better.

I never knew this was possible.

Were you able to remove channels with the DVR box or was it just a regular cable box?

Im assuming he is talking about the 'tv listings' on the optimum website, not the box -- youve never been able to remove channels from the SA boxes. (And the Sony boxes used to have the ability but they removed it)

Anyway -- if you want to customize your own TV listings -- just go to zap2it.com and customize away. Thats what the optimum website's listings are based off of anyway.

I believe that feature has been pulled.

Let's not let this issue stand. Yes, there are other ways to get the listings. The web/dvr way used to make it possible to customize your channel listing and still maintain the ability to communicate with the DVR.

Doesn't bother me one way or the other. I don't use CV's crappy DVR service because of bonehead moves like this. Tivo handles this splendidly. I agree, you should be able to customize your channel listings as it is pointless to scroll things pages of crap you don't get..

The truth is CV considers full guide listings as marketing material, meant to entice you to call up and order packages you do not subscribe to. Its the reason why customization of the guide was pulled on the Sony boxes, and the reason why you can't customize the guide on the SA box as well. They'd rather shove that down your throat then improve the user experience.

Re: [help] TV Listings Update - Customizing Channels

i agree. they should do like directv has. you can customize with just channels your get or just hd channels or set up your own favorites list. also, you can hide the standard def duplicates of the hd channels which, for me, is great. i like the option of hiding the sd dupes or if i want show them all.

While you're in the TV Listings page, click on Settings. Click the name of the account that you're currently logged in, turn on Parental Controls, and click Edit next to Channels. Select all of the channels you don't want the TV Listings to show and click the Save button. And you're done.

Re: [help] TV Listings Update - Customizing Channels

yeah i tried using the optimum listing but the grid is all messed up, it doesn't even list programs under their correct genres, it just has entire channels under 1 category if you're trying to find sports in hd you're S.O.L. cause apparently the yankees weren't playing game 3 of the world series Saturday at 8pm on FOX HD...lol

the only reason i use it is cause TV Guide hasn't updated the listings grid with NBA TV, also the Optimum site normally has listings for nfl games or college games earlier than TV GUIDE whom will have it just say TBA till about a day prior.

Re: [help] TV Listings Update - Customizing Channels

Well at least you were able to find a way to do it for the online site.. Still doesn't help with the guide on the box. Maybe I'm spoiled -- the channels I remove from my Tivo don't show up on it unless I tell them to, and they also don't show up on the Tivo website when I do online scheduling.

Re: [help] TV Listings Update - Customizing Channels

why dont you just use the cableivision dvr's?

what perks does Tivo offer?

how many simultaneous recordings can it do?

and how much space/hours can the harddrive(s) hold?

Re: [help] TV Listings Update - Customizing Channels

I'd like to be able to customize the guide on my SA box for no other reason than not having to explain the ever so descriptive porn titles to my kids. Right now, they're only hovering around the "kids" area of the guide, but eventually that's going to change. Coming up on channel 95: "Eat My Black Meat 12", "All Swallowers", "Big Boobs Are Cool", and "Black Beaver Lick". I'm not making this up. Over on channel 94, we have the "08 Palin Erection" and "Bonin' The Nurse".

They have (and we're using) the parental controls for programming, but the guide has nothing.

Yeah -- there is no reason for that. That bothers me too.. My gf has the SA box at her house and when we are watching TV with her daughter we have to make sure we dont pull up the guide near the kids channels.
