newbie in flushing nyc - docsis 3.0 helps with node probs?
I'm signed up for 15mps but never seem to get over 1.5 after 12pm. I was told by the tier 3 that we are on an overloaded node, and that they are working on splitting the node. But I'm getting tired of waiting -- if I buy a docsis 3 modem will that help anything at all, given that it is a node issue?
Or, if I just splurge for the 50mbps, would the node issues affect speed there as well?
Or should I just give up and wait for FIOS (coming soon hopefully)?
I am in downtown flushing off main st.

Yes, it should help even on an overloaded node because the wideband service operates on a different frequency than the regular internet service. Of course, if even people sign up for DOCSIS 3.0 service, then it will get crowded as well but at this early stage and high price point, there shouldn't be too other users on your node. My own experience is that I get 50/5 speeds even during primetime hours. I recently discovered a company's server that actually maxed out the 50 mbits/sec download speed: Apple. I downloaded a firmware update for an iPhone and the transfer speed hit and sustained 50 mbits.
