Dslextreme wanted me to pay for the modem that I owned

I canceled my DSL a couple months ago, and I received this letter from your 'Coollections Department' wanting me to pay for the modem. I was with you guys so long that I was one of those guys got a modem rebate instead of free modem lease. In other words, I owned the modem.

Actually, I verified with you billing department on Aug 30, and I saved a transcript...

Thank you for contacting DSL Extreme. My name is Liz. How may I help you?
kachun:
Hi, I just received your confirmation on my cancel request.
kachun:
I have a couple questions.
Liz:
Ok.
kachun:
Firstly, I saw there was something about returning the modem.
Liz:
That is correct.
kachun:
When I signed up back in 2002, the modem was charged and I got a rebate, ie I paid for the modem.
kachun:
You can see the invoice here...

kachun:
As you can see I did not have any lease modem.
Liz:
Ok I do see that you paid for it, was there anything else you needed?
kachun:
So can you make a note on my account, so I won't get some surprise a few months
later.
Liz:
Yes.

I really don't feel like to have to call your 'collections department', and I cannot even use Chat without my active account. Can someone from DSLextreme take care of this for me?

This was the exact reason I left. Everytimes I called you guys with a problem during my last several mouths, it always wasted 1-2 hours of my time and without a resolution.

As your incentive, my sister and parent-in-law were referred by me and still with your guys.

Hi Kachun -

The modem that was provided to you was a modem lease. Several years ago we used to require an initial payment for the modem which would be automatically credited back to your account towards future services. I show that in fact to be the case when I referenced your old invoices. Though you did make an initial payment it wasn't for the purchase of modem but those monies were rather applied towards the first few months of service.

I apologize for any confusion.

Thanks,
