[OOL] FEC Framing Errors - modem reboots

Several times a day my OOL modem reboots. The common indication in the modem log is

1970-01-01 00:04:37 3-Critical T001.0 SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing
1970-01-01 00:04:22 3-Critical T002.0 SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire FEC framing

Tech support has never been helpful - always suggesting reboot, swap modem, connect directly to modem (no router)... - all have been done multiple times.

I have had OOL techs here multiple times to no avail. The modem, all wiring and connectors have been replaced including the drop.

Any suggestions on getting their attention on this problem before I drop them in favor of FIOS?

Those errors tend to be noise on the Downstream.

Here is what one of the error messages mean and what the engineers *should* be checking. (The other is in the link and similar)

%UBR900-4-FAILED_TO_ACQUIRE_SYNC: T01.0 Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing. Error stats? Retry [dec]'s

Explanation The cable modem could not lock on to the downstream's QAM/QPSK SYNC signal This error message is DOCSIS event message T01.0, SYNC Timing Synchronization failure.

Recommended Action Check the RF plant for cabling and connector problems that could be generating noise on the downstream. If using a Cisco CMTS, you can use the show cable flap-list command to determine if other cable modems on the upstream are having problems. You can also use the show interfaces cable upstream command and examine the noise, microreflection, and uncorrectable error counters to determine the level of noise on the upstream.
