Woes in 06840
Wasn't uncommon for me to achieve download speeds of 30Mbps and upload speeds slightly north of 5Mbps. However, during the past few weeks speeds have dropped significantly. Download speeds range from 15Mbps to around 25Mbps. Upload speeds are horrible, often less than 1Mbps:
Ran a ping test:
Downstream:
S/N Ratio - 36dB
Power - 6dBmV
Freq - 609000000 Hz
Upstream:
Power - 41 dBmV
Upstream Mod - [1] QPSK [3] 16QAM [2] 64QAM
Freq - 22500000 Hz
Any insight/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Woes in 06840
Hard to say what's going on but have you noticed a change in your signal levels that you posted or are those your norms?
Although I didn't loose my internet connection (or speeds) I was getting really low signals all of a sudden. Some TV channels were not coming in also (or lots of pixelization).
My problem was water in the line from the drop on the side of the house to the first three way splitter.
It took Cablevision two attempts to find the issue. The second guy checked levels at each break in the line to find what the problem was.
All is fine and signals are well in spec now.
I have standard Optimum Online so I get no more than 15 Mb/s on download.

Thanks for the reply George.
To answer your question, I have not noticed any change in signal levels, those have been the norm for some time (allowing for 30+Mbps up and 5+Mbps down), as best I can tell.
Rebooted modem/router/etc...can't make much sense of this.
Thx.

I just did 3 tests:
Hoyt Farm
Brush Ridge
Main Street (just south of town)
All have regular OOL and getting normal speeds, except hoyt farm download speed was a little low (11mbps).

Thanks jaa...weird I am getting such results, as I am close to one of your test sights.
At 6:50AM this morning, something definitely awry...

Re: Woes in 06840
Have you taken any of the usual prelinary troubleshooting steps?
When speeds are poor, how 'bout with a PC connected directly to the modem...no router?
Are the speeds poor on more than one PC?
If the answers to those 2 questions are yes and yes, it seems to me it's time for you to call OOL tech support. They'll need to do some troubleshooting on their end, and possibly roll a truck to track down the problem outside of your house.

Guess it is time for a much dreaded call to Customer Service...these speeds are unacceptable...1/3 the advertised download speed (I don't care what time of day it is) and the continued less than 1Mbps upload speed absolutely blows...sigh.

OMG - two hours after tech visit and this is now what I have...
Un freakin' believable. He took out my high-end Electroline Amp and swapped it for a much cheaper Cablevision one, new connectors, and a new splitter (none before), and swapped out my Moto 5120 with a new Moto modem (the new giant one w/built-in battery backup). Nice guy and all, but things have gotten much worse since his arrival and work (still here).
Sigh...stay tuned...

Almost 3 hours later...escalated...no problem on my end...at the pole or elsewhere on Cablevision's end according to the tech...stay tuned...

Ugh. Called tech support this AM to inquire about the status of the repair, they offered to send a tech back out to my house. I explained I spent 3hrs w/a tech on Fri PM and it was determined not to be a problem at my end/etc. A tech has been to the pole twice (conflicting info from support, some say somebody was out on Mon and Tues and another said just Mon). They are still seeing packet loss on their end. Escalated and another tech/field supervisor due out today.

In Darien upstream is ok, but downstream with boost has been around 8mbit. I have had techs out to the house with no change. Things seem to be getting worse in our area :(

Re: Woes in 06840
Same thing happening here in Fairfield with regular OOL. I'm tempted to upgrade to boost but not if its going to be the same.
During the day speeds are ok... (from speakeasy.net NYC)
Last Result:
Download Speed: 14262 kbps (1782.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1628 kbps (203.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
but during the evenings (5PM on) its almost unusable.
Anyone know if FIOS is going to make its way into Fairfield county or U-verse has a fast alternative?

problems in 07075 as well (have Boost). This has been going on for 3 weeks , definitely OOL line issue. That's what the last service technician said when they came to my house two weeks ago.

Re: Woes in 06840
Last PM I again called tech support as not only did the problems persist, but the promised callback/update never came...sigh. So after poking around notes associated with my account, the tech said that a "specialty team" was requested to address my speed problems, as the sole tech who went to the pole requested as much. Normally, I guess it takes up to 72hrs for such "teams" to deploy, but after I bitched about the runaround and mixed stories, I was put on hold and assured such a team would be on site today (11/12). In addition, I am to receive a credit from the date I reported the problem (last Fri). Not at home as of this posting, but will check to see if the problem has been resolved later this PM and try to get some insight as to what the problem is/was specifically.

No FIOS in Fairfield (or CT) but U-Verse is in Westport, FWIW.

Re: Woes in 06840
Obviously, despite being told the contrary, the "specialty team" didn't resolve my issues today. I called at 6PM this evening and was told the window for their work order was open until 8PM. Well, as of 9:12PM, speeds still suck and no resolution in site. Any suggestion on how to escalate, as I am definitely getting the runaround...
Thx.

Re: Woes in 06840
Did you try removing boost? That may be an interim solution that works better than what you have until they resolve the problem.
Another option is post in the direct forum and see if they can escalate.

Wow. Simply speechless. Just got off the phone w/support and it is the same story, different day..."yes, I see a tech needs to come out to the pole and that is scheduled for today". OMG. Can nobody there get on the same page and remedy this problem? I keep getting the runaround and told different things by different reps. Apparently the "speciality team" never made it out and the last rep has now idea what I was talking about...and explained how he understood my frustration and assured me they were working on it...I told him I wasn't so sure, as each day I am fed a different story/status. Apologies for this turning into a rant, but OMG, what a frustrating experience this has been. I will try posting in the direct forum and escalating but man, I am spending way too much time trying to get them to fix my connection.

Re: Woes in 06840
Well just got off the phone with cv again. All this week I've been sitting @ 8-10 mbit even in the middle of the night. The tech I spoke to said that things would be resolved within 2 weeks and engineers were working in the area. I can only hope that means they are splitting the node. I guess only time will tell.

Re: Woes in 06840
Well, after my previous post I called retention, because after a week of conflicting stories/etc, I figured I would see if they could escalate. When I called, the rep was more than willing to make some calls to find out what was going on w/the repair. After maybe 20 mins, she called me back, after speaking with dispatch and a repair supervisor - they were at the "site" conducting the repair (per the rep) when she called. She proceeded to credit me for the down time and then tried to up-sell to Triple Play.
Well, once I got home I ran some tests. Fri night at 6:30PM, these are now my speeds:
Looks like whatever it was, they remedied...kudos to Cablevision for doing so. Will try to find out details and post more info when available.
