[AZ] Dropped Connection, Modem Online - SBG900

I've been reading through the posts here and noticed others having the same issue. A firmware update seems to resolve for most, however I've only noticed the SB5100 series exhibiting this behavior, which is why I'm posting a new thread. Apologies if this has been brought up already and I didn't notice it.

My issue started about five days ago now and has not let up since. Once a day I seem to lose all connectivity, however the modem is still up and running with no issues. If I do a release/renew on the router it doesn't ever renew, so a power-cycle of the modem is necessary. This fixes the issue every time.

I called Cox support about two days after the issue started happening and was told "Bypass your router as we can't do anything for you until you do". Ok fair enough, so I bypass my router. Same issue. So yesterday I contacted a rep (who was very rude incidentally, but that's besides the point) who said she saw nothing wrong and to bypass my router. I told her I did already and there was silence, so I asked for a tech to come out and check splitters, the drop, cabling, etc. A gentleman came out and found nothing wrong, but said a splitter was replaced and all should be good.

About two hours after he left, internet connectivity dropped again. I then changed DNS to 4.2.2.2 and 4.3.3.3 respectively, but that obviously didn't work as it dropped again this morning. Again power-cycling the modem (not the router) will resolve the issue EVERY time.

Is it possible I have a firmware issue? I thought it might have been a problem with my equipment, however I requested a new modem from the company I work for and was told several people have had the same issue and that my problem won't be resolved with a new modem.

I'd like to offer more information, however I'm at work and don't have access to my equipment. Here is what I am using however, if it helps:

SBG900 (Wireless Disabled)
D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router (latest firmware: 10/2008)

Thanks for any help you can provlde.

If you want to PM me the modem's MAC address I can check to see if there are any firmware upgrades for yours. One word of caution I would offer regarding your setup, the SBG900 is always a router by nature and to the best of my knowledge that cannot be changed. By connection another router to it a double-NAT situation is created which could also contribute to any other problems you may be experiencing.

Thanks for looking into the issue. I'll check it tonight when I get home.

Hi OP. I am having the same problem. It started for me on 11/12/2009. I also have an SBG900 and use the built-in wireless. However, it is definitely a modem issue because my wired PS3 is having similar connectivity issues. As with you power cycle solves the problem every time. I also have Cox. Nothing has changed in my setup for over a year.

if it happens to your PS3 it sounds like the router in the SB900

Note that the OP has narrowed the problem down to his modem (same model as mine). He uses a separate router. I am pretty sure that this is a modem issue, but I think it is being caused by something on Cox's end. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is there a firmware update for SBG900 that can be pushed from Cox?
