Blatant Throttling

Hi,

A few days ago I was downloading a large file greater than 2GB and noticed something weird. Near the end of the download speed dropped from 1.5MB/s to 200KB/s. Also all web pages began loading really slow. Brushed it off as congestion on the network, but it happened again yesterday.

Now I find an article regarding Comcast throttling that explains it all. Apparently, if you use the bandwidth you paid for more than 15min at a time, they degrade your connection for 15min until you stop downloading. If they don't want me to use more than 70% of my bandwidth, why not sell me 8.4Mbit instead of 12Mbit.

This is really disturbing as the whole point of having a high speed connection is for large downloads to finish quick. Page loads between a 1.5Mbit T1 and a 12Mbit cable differ in fractions of a second. I might as well switch to DSL and pay less for the same bandwidth.

Smells like a class action for false advertising...

Thanks,
Nite Rider
