[Internet] Bell Business Internet
I work in Bolton, ON and we have Bell Business Internet at our store. We did have the high speed package, but were consistently not getting anywhere near the 8m down speeds advertised. On average, its about 500down/100up. This is shared between about 10 computers and our interact system (we're a retail store). I ended up downgrading our service to the lowest Business package because the techs I spoke to some time ago said that we were too far from the nearest station or some such thing to get high speeds.
There is no cable or wireless available in the area. As I understand it, businesses such as TekSavvy just use Bell's lines, so there would be no benefit in switching companies. I'm not very technically versed in any of this, but are the Bell techs just feeding me BS? We need more bandwidth for our store, I'm fine with paying for service if it works.
I would imagine there could be some issue with inside wiring since this is a relatively old building. Is there some way I can test from the dmarc myself? Does this matter if we're 'so far from the nearest station.'
Can someone point me in the right direction or offer any advice. I can provide more info if needed. I don't really know where to start.

With TekSavvy you have the ability to bond two or more lines. Two lines is easy, just requires a new router, but if you want three or more it requires more hardware and knowledge.
You say 500down/100up? Bits, bytes, kilobytes?

My bad

That's not too bad, generally latency is higher.

Wow, that's terrible for 10 people to share!
You're not even half what you're supposed to get on the Bell Business Basic, which offers 1mbps down 640kbps up!
What speeds were you getting when you were on their fastest package?

If you are a business and your connection is important than hire a professional.
There is a section in the phone book for this.

I know, it's crazy. Mind you, most people are really only using email and browsing some. The whole reason we downgraded was because we were getting these speeds with the high speed package, and Bell said it wouldn't go any faster.

I'm actually trying to find someone to do this. We also have some phone line problems I'd like looked after. However, our business has a few locations around southern ontario, so I'd like to get one person to do it all.
Any recommendations?

Re: [Internet] Bell Business Internet
Most small telecom contractors like me won't handle multiple geographic regions. You may find one if you call around enough though.
However they are best suited to handle your re-wire in an old building.
They can address your line issues from the demarc in and hopefully re-cable or install a centralized pots splitter for your dsl.
They are listed under "Telephone Installation and Repair Service" in the phone book. Ask around for a referral if you can.
There may be some larger interconnect firms (business systems-networking) that will do this possibly in multiple locations.
However they generally shy away from single line issues especially dsl.
They are listed under "Telephone Equipment, Systems and Services" in the phone book.
I don't know anyone near Bolton sorry.
