[hard drive] New Hitachi 7K2000 2TB SATA 3.0 gbs Drive--- PC won
Just purchased a brand new Hitachi 2.0 TB 7K2000 SATA drive after some good reviews (and a nice price.)
Well, it arrived 2 days ago. However whenever I hook it up, as soon as I plug in the SATA cable the PC stops POSTing. I can hear the drive (it's very quiet) making a '[click]' then a quiet noise then '[click] again, rinse, repeat, rinse repeat as long as it has power.
I can't get in the PC BIOS. It doesn't make it that far. I've tried googling around to see if there's any known incompatibilities between Hard-drives and the Intel DX38BT board but haven't found anything.... not have I found any reports of these new drives doing this.
I am suspecting the drive is simply DOA. (It happens).... but was wondering on the off chance if anyone's heard of something like this happening or any potential solutions or work-arounds?
I'm hesitant to just call for a replacement drive if there's some incompatibility issue or something that is resolvable on my end.
Thanks in advance :D

more info needed:
What is the purpose of the drive? (Primary drive or a backup)
What OS are you using?
What are the specs of your PC? (Besides just chipset info)
Do you have a jumper? If yes, is it in the correct config?
I would hook it up as a backup and format. Here's a link that talks about formatting your drive (but as a new install with your OS... so I'm shooting in the dark)

It will be a secondary storage drive, mostly.
I'm currently running Vista Ultimate 32bit--- but remember the PC won't even POST when the drive is connected to SATA.
The motherboard is the Intel DX38BT. That's the actual motherboard. Q6600 Quad-Core CPU, 4GB DDR3, ICH9 etc
No jumpers. BIOS controls.
I can't hook it up as backup or primary. As soon as I plug the SATA cord from the drive into the SATA ports on the motherboard, the PC will no longer POST. The video card initializes and then the POST process hangs.

I'd think that either the Mobo's BIOS isn't capable of handling a 2.0TB SATA 300 drive, or else the drive itself is DOA... :(
Does the drive have a Jumper setting for SATA 150 (Vs. SATA 300) mode? If so, then just for grins, try setting the jumper to SATA 150 mode, and see if the Mobo will then POST with it...

Drive doesn't appear to have any jumper settings. The Motherboard claims full SATA 3.0 GBPS support with "backwards compatibility" to regular SATA.
I just ran a test. If I power the drive but don't connect the SATA cable. The drive still goes [CLICK] hummmmmmmmm [CLICK] Hummmmmmmmm [CLICK] again and again.
I think it's DOA. :(

One more thing to look at.
Some motherboards specify that when running multiple SATA drives, the primary boot drive has to be on a specific SATA port.
This is non-intuitive. On my board, when using 4 drives, port 3 is where the boot drive must be or nothing happens. When using a single drive, port 1 is where it has to be.
Worth checking the manual to see if this is a factor before exchanging the new HDD.

Also try a different SATA cable to rule that out.
Good luck!

Let me guess, you ordered the drive from some supplier like Newegg that shipped the drive wrapped in bubble wrap?
