[General] What is a typical call termination cost in the U.S.?

When I make a call to someone else via my VOIP service. I understand there is a termination charge made to my VOIP provider from the terminating phone number provider.

Does anyone know what the average termination cost is per call per minute? Is there some sort of industry or news link about this?

Thanks

You have the direction backwards.

The payment is made to the company receiving the call.

I believe that is what pandora wrote. (Although it could have been a little clearer.)

Old article. (Kevin Martin hasn't been Chair of the FCC since the last administration.) Wonder if anything came out of that proposal.

That website does have the confusing practice of putting today's date on top of every page on the site. I thought that may have thrown you off into thinking it was a fresh article.

And even worse, the article itself is not dated. I'll bet they do it purposefully, thinking they'll get more readers by pretending all the articles are current.

your VOIP provider pays a PSTN carrier to deliver the call to the termination carrier. the termination carrier will bill the PSTN carrier a per minute charge, the PSTN carrier adds a markup, then bills your VOIP provider.

I sell a wholesale termination service and the rates range from a low of $0.00139 per minute to a couple of cell providers in Palm Springs CA to a high of $0.0493 mostly to some codes in Alaska.

Average would depend on traffic distribution; most figure around $0.005 per minute.
