[STB] Models used in Chicago west suburbs?
Can anyone tell me what models of STB are deployed for the digital starter package out of the Elmhurst office so I can look up the box tech specs/manual?
I'm planning an upgrade from the standard package I have now but with my new TV that's being purchased, I'm concerned about STB output connections. I've gotten non-answers from support and RF/Composite only is going to be a problem.
Thanks

Yes, it is HD and has HDMI inputs along with one component and one RF. I plan on using the single coax input to get OTA signals). So an HDTV STB would be great, but in trying to manage my monthly bills, I'm not interested in paying the extra $10 (or whatever it is) for extra HD service.
I've been told I had to do that to get an HD STB while others have said they got one with starter package and nothing extra, but none of these people were out of this area.

Digital cable packages include ONE SD box. HD is an extra cost upgrade. Additional boxes are even more expensive, as they include the SD cost plus the additional HD cost.
You could use an SD box, and connect it to one of the composite inputs. You could use an antenna to get local HD, or use a splitter to get the clearQAM channels from Comcast, which currently includes HD's of all the locals, plus their subchannels.
If you want ESPN, Discovery or other cable channels in HD, you MUST get an HD box, or the rare TV with CableCard, or something like an HD Tivo.

I don't really care about getting the HD signal from Comcast...my monthly bill is too high now and I can't justify additional costs from them.
It wouldn't be an issue on my older set I'm retiring with 2 RF inputs, 1 Component, and 4 Composite...but the new set only has the higher end connections beyond a single RF i.e. HDMI/Component.
I do plan on using RF OTA for local HD, the sub-channels CC doesn't carry, and for when I have an outage which has happened within the last week. I have other SD gear that has HDMI and/or component out...I'm frustrated about what they want to give me that isn't really compatible without kludging something up and it seems inconsistent across different regional offfices.
