Hate the colour. LEDs use very little current. Have enough people (millions) with these lamps tho and it might have an impact in which case BHell will probably jack up their rates to compensate

You can draw more power if you get the Ring voltage. ;)
I used to know the phone number to dial for getting a ring back...

There are similar ones available on Ebay as well and in a color that isn't pink. The cost is about $7 which includes shipping.
It sounds good to not have to pay for the elecricity to use these. However, I would be concerned about what it would do to the quality of a DSL signal if a bunch of them were plugged in and they drew to much power.

Re: for all the bell haters out there.
This thing would draw such a miniscule amount of power. My quick google searches indicate the maximum power you could draw through a phone line is about 1 watt. Annual cost to Bell would be about $1 or $1.20.
For all the Bell haters, just switch to Teksavvy. Easier, you save money and your sanity...

Is there a current trip breaker on Bell's end or something, or is that purely limitation due to the small gauge of the wire?

Funny what happens when the phone rings.

It's a limitation from telephone loops having current-limiting resistors/circuitry that limit current draw to about 20mA, it has very little to do with wire gauge.

Re: for all the bell haters out there.
I'm afraid 20 mA is the off-hook current, i don't know about
other locations but i was under the impression that if Bell's
HardWare should detect an off-hook condition for too long
it would place my phone-line in "iddle" state. This sure does
not seem very practical to me if the power source won't be
available for more than a few minutes. If the concept were
to draw only a tiny amount of current below some "leakage"
detection level then maybe that might make sense but it's
not too clear to me what that sort of power will accomplish.

Re: for all the bell haters out there.
How about using a blinker bulb that constantly draws power and then cuts out momentarily? If Bicephale's impression is correct, this should fool the system into keeping the power source connected to the line and allow you to draw almost maximum current at the same time. ;)

Bicephale @ 9th Nov 02:14AM:
Re: for all the bell haters out there.
Lets make a wild guess by supposing the "leakage" threshold
is 100 uA, if one converts 48 Volts @ 100 uA into 3.3 Volts
he can't hope for much more than 1 mA of available current.
So, other than an array of LCD watches, what else can one
have in mind as a usefull load?!...

Which means they will raise their prices to compensate meaning we pay more too.
EDIT: And as we all know Bell math - an increase of their costs of $0.10 per home per month means a price hike of $4 per home per month :/

I personally wouldn't use this... if your phone voltage goes below a certain amount it might be detected as off-hook
Correct me if I'm wrong?

I know it sounds great and all, but piping a duct from Bell HQ isn't all the fun it would seem to be.

LOL at the last 4 posters actually taking this product seriously. yes it would work, but i don't think anyone is actually looking at this as a devious way to rip off bell.

It's more of a novelty thing.
Every time you turn it on it's like saying FU to Bell in some small way.

I wouldn't need to pipe it from the entire HQ actually, just from Bibic's office would be enough. :D
