Answer these "6" questions first, then answer any of the following questions that are specific to your issue:
1) Your location: City and State. Warrenton, VA
2) A description of the problem. Time Outs causing to disconnect from gaming and streaming applications (Justin.tv)
3) Is the issue intermittent, constant or does it occur at a specific time of day? intermittent, when im broadcasting on justin.tv is when it does it
4) Your modem make, model & firmware version. How to find firmware version:
Cisco
WebSTAR DPC2100R2
v2.0.2r1256-081120
5) Describe any home networking if applicable. (i.e. routers, hubs, adapters, etc.) 1 router, Linksys WRT54GS
6) List any firewall and/or anti-virus software you have installed. Include what version you have.
Mcafee Security Suite
If you have an issue with slow or fluctuating speed: no
What HSI Tier you are subscribed to: (i.e. 6000/1000, 12000/2000, etc.) 12000/2000 i believe
Post a Speed Test
Post a Tweak Test
???
Post what browser/browsers you are using while running a speed test. Chrome, World of Warcraft Login Screen
If you have an issue with an intermittent connection or no connection:
What indicator lights does the modem have and the current status of each. (i.e. constant or blinking)
Post modem's Signal Levels
Recieve -1.7DbmV
Send 43.2DbmV
PC Light is Blinking
Cable is solid
and Power is solid (well i would hope that is)
Post modem's Log Entries
Log cannot be accessed because the modem wont let me -_-
This feature is not enabled.
Give a description of the cable & splitters configuration in your home leading to the modem.
Box > Wall > Splitter going in > Splits off into 3 other splits one for internet, one for tv and ??? > other split heads off into another splitter for other TVs
If you have issues with packet loss, latency, or routing:
Post a trace route to the server you're having issues with. Use PingPlotter for the best results. Download here: PingPlotter
To monitor an IP address for 24+ hours to detect packet loss and/or excessive latency variability from three different locations, use: Smokeping
A simple line test can be used from the Tools page: Line Packet Loss Testing
For any other issues:
Post any additional information that may help in resolving your issue.
you for the record theres alot of crap to go thru just figure out one problem -_-

How big is your outbound stream? What other apps do you have running? What other computer devices are on your network? (running at the same time) Have you tried it without the router inline?

Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
Your signal power levels are ok, the SNR would be useful.
We can't really tell you what is wrong - there are too many possibilities.
You could have a hardware issue (modem, router, cabling), you can have a signal (noise) issue, you could have a network issue.
Have you had a tech out? What did they do/say?

I cant find out my outbound stream or SNR Ratio becasue my modem wotn give me access to my signals or logs just my system info, it keeps giving me this crap about feature is not enabled. and do i dare call cisco about that, im not wantign to only for the fact that i dotn want to get some dude from malaysia on the phone (no offense i just cant understand them)
and yes i have tried bypassign the router, i dont even get a connection it happens when i broadcast on justin.tv, heres my link right here you guys can go to it ill be casting tonight and you can see for your self justin.tv/kaiba12, all i want is an answer to this ongoing issue that comcast just cant seem to give me, im actually thinking about reformatting, that may fix the problem, but not until im sure it will

Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
By "How big is your outbound stream?" I meant how much bandwidth is your broadcast using of your Upstream (sending) side. (even if tests are showing 8+ you'll likely get 2Mbps( max on a long stream/file... in reality it may need to be limited to 1.5 TOTAL upstream to allow for bandwidth management ACk's, etc' )
A lot depends on HOW you set up your network.
Starting at the wall. (cable jack) explain exactly the order you have devices attached (sorry, I can't see your house, describe it to a blind guy ;) )
The vonage device (a MTA, really a router,NOT a modem, does reserve some bandwidth(if inline) and even while not being used, does periodically send "I' alive" and recieve "No messages, no message.. ARE YOU THERE?" type packets (uses some bandwidth (small amount) but time critical) to which it responds back) AND is KNOWN to cause SOME bandwidth problems.
The Apparent packet loss MAY or MAY NOT be real, it might be routers too busy or set not to respond to repeated pings (how pingplotter works)
So describe your network, and consider directly connecting the modem to the wall jack (temporarily, yes I know no phone like that, just to test it)

Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
Ok theres the modem right, that has an ethernet cable coming out into the Linksys router, the router has a connetion splitting off for Vonage, then another Splitting off to my XBOX which i might disconnect cuz i hardly go on live anymore, and the otehr is connected to my custom built PC, and i dont have any wall jacks in this house, or in the basement for that matter, everything is in my laundry room on a wall.

tshirt @ 8th Nov 08:23PM:
Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
OK the vonage MTA is NOT inline so it's QoS CAN't reserve bandwidth (still uses some bandwidth) and the xBox (which also sends recieve a few packet when on EVEN if you aren't on LIVE) uses a small amount.
In your laundry room, connect the router to PC line directly to the the modem and try a SINGLE stream (if you were running more than one at a time, that alone COULD be the problem)

anon @ 8th Nov 08:35PM:
Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
i was just running one stream now wxplain how i can connect the router directly to the pc, cuz currently i have the modem in the router set in the ehternet port of the router, and the PC is in port 2 of the router

tshirt @ 8th Nov 09:42PM:
Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
unplug ethernet from modem to router (at the modem) remove line to PC from port 2 and put in (now open) ethernet jack in modem...POWER cycle (unpower everything...plug in modem... once the lights settle/reach normal... restart computer)
NOW test

Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
so the modem is fine when connected directly to the PC, but that doesnt explain why im havign so many problems when hooked up to the router, vonage and my pc, and i went ahead and took the ethernet cable off teh xbox so now its just vonage and my pc thats hooked up to the router
reply
tshirt @ 9th Nov 02:50AM:
Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
So if it ran better without the router, it tells you that the router OR the connected devices are the problem.
next test would be add the router back but leave the vonage and xbox disconnected PLUS turn off the wireless in the router and test again...if that works add back the vonage...test again, if ok add the xbox and test.
If any device added seems to causes problems, leave it disconnected, and add something else
I'm looking toward eliminating the wireless until last, as it could be activity from your laptop (or local leeches :( ) as being part of the problem.
You can also try streaming at a lower bitrate and see if that helps.
The first task is to determine WHAT is causing the problem, and then find a solution to THAT problem.

Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
Ok well i did another cast on my main channel at 750kbps, and I only think this was coincidence but the whole time it was running like it should, i had a few packet loss here and there but it wasnt enough to lag me during hte cast or kick me off of wow, i did these following changes:
- Removed teh Ethernet cable from hte router to the cable
- I changed the wireless mode on the wireless settings from mixed to G-Only
- Power cycled for changes to take effect
everything worked great but i still think it was coincidence, cuz it worked 1hr and 45 minutes doesnt mean its goign to work for another 1:45 minutes the next time.

now this was when i unplugged the vonage from the router, after that i did turn off the wireless and got almost the same result

and im still getting problems, i have figured out while watching pingplotter while pinging to comcast.net im losing packets from one of the routes at IP: 4.68.63.186 half the time and im losing 100% packets at ge-6-7-ur01.south.va.richmond.comcast.net

Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
Can you post the complete trace ? Losing 100% of packets typically means that the router/interface is configured to not respond to ICMP based ping packets. Many of Comcast's CMTS interfaces at the headends are indeed configured this way. It is usually hop #1 or hop #2 in a trace depending on whether or not one has a home networking router in the path. In these cases to see 100% of ICMP type packets being dropped is normal and is not an issue as the router/interface is passing/forwarding real traffic normally.

Re: [Connectivity] Random Time Outs causing me to lose connectio
It's normal for that hop not to respond, in most systems
It doesn't represent any actual packet loss ( there could be some, but you can't tell from that)
Also try 100 pings or 250, one second apart........ 10 pings is too small a sample.

Seems like something has to be off to me. I have seen defective modems drop offline during times when their in continuous use. Also problems such as ingress causing random Timeouts. If its very sporadic It does seem like somthing has to be causing the issue.
Most likely only an experienced Tech is going to be able to help you. Some will walk in and check signal and if they are within spec tell you everything is fine even though it may not be.
