Uverse Remotes with green sticker that say RF

I bought some replacement remotes for my uverse boxes on ebay and realized they dont work. They dont have the blue stickers like my old remotes, they have green stickers that say RF on them.

Any way to make these remotes work with my boxes?

They should work, all RF means is Radio Frequency, Uverse boxes may need an attachment for use of RF but i'd doubt it. RF just has a longer range than IR, which are the normal ones.

This should shed some light on it. You apparently didn't get the USB adapter receiver part?

I notice that the RF remote is "out of stock" at the AT&T store.

Is the USB adaptor/dongle compatible between green labels and blue labels?

A Gray remote with the Green AT&T Sticker on the bottom for RF?

I believe these are for STBes that never made it to installs...

I actually have a couple of these RF remotes

Cisco makes an IPTV receiver that is similar to the Dish Network DVR in that it can feed multiple TVs, and the "slaved" TVs are controlled via RF remotes

I think this is where those old U-Verse RF remotes came in -- but those receivers were never used (AFAIK) for U-Verse

Possible duped purchased?

Is there a "window" on the front of the remote (I haven't seen the RF ones)? If there is, you should be able to use IR. If IR isn't working, you'll have to program the remote with the box I guess...

Anyways why would you buy replacement remotes that are used? If they're on Ebay, there's likely going to be something faulty with them. Not saying Ebay is bad, but i would tend to stave away from buying electronics on it.

Just to put it out there, this is the RF remote by AT&T:

here is the ebay listing i bought them from. I think i am SOL. The seller emailed me back and said he lists the model # for this reason and leaves it up to the buyer to decide most likely for CYA.

What is the model on the one you received?

Print out the listing, and if you didn't receive what he offered...

I tried to do an autoprogram with the AT&T box but it doesnt work. Does anyone know if there is an IR code for the uverse boxes that i can try?

Re: Uverse Remotes with green sticker that say RF

Just as point of reference, my model number is RC1534801/00, so yours must be "newer."

As for things you can try, what about resetting the remote to it's factory defaults?
1. Press and hold the AT&T button, and, without releasing said button, press OK.
2. Release both buttons. All four mode keys should flash twice
3. Enter the code 900. The AT&T button should flash three times if done correctly.
If the light flashes once for a long time, then something went wrong and the remote is in normal operation, and you will have to start over.

I'm looking around now to see about reprogramming the AT&T key for the box.

EDIT: I'm not finding things yet, but I'm just still not understanding why that remote won't work... Factory reset should help since they come auto-programmed.

Chunk73, Tanshin made an observation earlier that is very important. Is there or is there not a red window in the front of the remote? If there is no red window, it is an RF unit and without an RF to IR converter at the DVR or STB, the remote will not work.

There is a red window on the front of the remote however i have a feeling that is only for the IR function to control devices assigned to the other 3 keys, TV, DVD, AUX. It has to have it for those 3 keys to work as I assume those use traditional IR and RF.

Your AT&T box does use IR normally. Did you try to reset to Factory Default like I suggested?

Yes, i tried the factory reset but with no luck. I really think these remotes are RF for the uverse portion and IR for the other 3 functions.

Does anyone know how to get just the usb dongle that they are selling with the current point anywhere remote? Would be curious to see if it would work with these.

Re: Uverse Remotes with green sticker that say RF

No, the IR portion should work for the AT&T side as well.

I'm not sure if you can get the dongles separately though...

EDIT: I don't know if I would pursue separate dongles... I'm looking at that ad and the manual states that they are IR remotes.

Re: Uverse Remotes with green sticker that say RF

Ask the seller to send the dongle or a refund. If he refuses I would file a claim with EBay. In the photo it says “IR U-verse TV remote” It appears they sent you an RF remote. As there add is misleading you will likely gat a full refund if you insist there add mislead you.

The seller and i have gotten into a pretty heated back and forth email fight. He definitely mislead me with the description on the listing. However his argument was that the remote would still work for the other 3 functions, TV, DVD and AUX. I told him that is true but not the reason why i bought them. I dont know if he is going to offer a refund.

Re: Uverse Remotes with green sticker that say RF

Yeah, he has at least 11 (I saw that ad, plus he has another ad that has identical content, but the title is different).

You should probably try and get EBay or something involved. Obviously this isn't something that you'd go to Judge Judy or The Peoples Court about... but I'm sure there is a way to get things resolved.

Just for kicks (and I'm curious), can you take a pic of what you got so we can see?

EDIT: So what's obviously happened is the following (based on what I've gathered):
1. You got the remote that he described (based off Model Number)
2. You did not get the remote that was pictured in his ad

Obviously, as he said, you can use it on other devices, however as you mentioned, this is not the full purpose of the remote. He specifically said in his ad:
This is for an AT&T Uverse Remote Control that is SEALED, brand new, never used. Works with your AT&T UVerse Receiver Box, TV, DVD, etc. Item includes instructions.

Re: Uverse Remotes with green sticker that say RF

Not quite exactly as indicated in the listing, as it reports that it is a "4 in 1" (sic) per the eBay ad it should control your AT&T Uverse (sic) Receiver box.

Also the doc in the eBay picture clearly indicates that it should be an IR U-verse remote. What does the doc say the arrived with your purchase?

It could be that the Seller got bad information but, I think based on the details above you should be able to get eBay to reverse the transaction.

Re: Uverse Remotes with green sticker that say RF

I got the remote pictured in the ebay auction, looks the same as mine but with a green AT&T sticker instead of a blue one. In the ebay auction the picture of the remote cuts off the bottom of the green sticker, which ironically has the letters "RF" at the bottom of the sticker. You cant see that in the auction picture. I dont know if the picture was purposely taken that way to exclude the RF letters on the green sticker.

The instruction manual that I received does in fact say IR, just like in the ebay auction. Which it is an IR remote, but only for the 3 other functions not the uverse function. The uverse function is using RF.

Re: Uverse Remotes with green sticker that say RF

That is so strange... I believe that somebody mentioned something earlier about this model working on newer boxes or something? Maybe these boxes had built in RF, unlike the current boxes that require the dongle.

His ad still misrepresents because he implies that the remotes are made to work with any AT&T box, and it is a "universal" remote, which it clearly does not.

EDIT: And I was looking at his picture and it has a sticker with AT&T on it. I'm not sure if you're saying that the RF is below it, or in place of the AT&T sticker.

Yes, Chuck is saying that the letters "RF" are on the bottom of the Green sticker along with the AT&T logo simular to the Blue sticker on the standard remote.

OK, then you only have 3 of the promised 4 in 1 (sic) as advertised by the eBay seller. Just give the seller the option to correct the problem. They promised a 4 in 1 remote and since you can't control your U-verse box it does not meet your needs or the advertised function.

As posted earlier in the thread this is a very specific U-verse remote and unless you have the correct RF capability in your U-verse STB it is just not going to work.

The sticker looks just like the blue AT&T one on our current remotes, except right at the bottom of it is a small "RF" in white letters. It is right below where the picture is cut off in his ebay auction.

He also has 96 of these remotes for sale. Very curious as to how he got ahold of so many of them.

The seller was only willing to give a store credit so i opened a dispute with ebay. I also asked him to change the description of the item so that no other users would fall victim to the misleading description but he has yet to do it. So i have a feeling he doesnt really care about the buyers that are getting scammed. He just wants the cash. Very poor business practices.
