US Robotics USR9108 Modem/Router config troubles
How do I configure this USR9108 Modem/Router (»www.usr.com/support/product-temp···rod=9108) to work in a routed mode with a static IP address?
I got it working in a bridge mode with a separate router, but cannot get it going when trying to use its built-in router. What protocol should I be using? I tried IP Over ATM, but am getting sync no surf - can't ping the gateway.
Thanks in advance,
SL

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the router settings on that specific unit. Maybe someone else here on BBR is? Is there a forum for USR that might have people that could help?
Thanks

We no longer have an US Robotics Forum. But I could move you to our »Other Manufacturers Forum, if you would like me to but it's not very busy. Or I could just leave it for the time being and see if any of our members can help.
In the mean time, I did find an US Robotics FAQ that might help some:

Re: US Robotics USR9108 Modem/Router config troubles
Thanks for the replies, guys.
Well, here's the page on the USR site that explains different ISP connection modes:
»www.usr.com/support/9108/9108-ug···rnet.htm
Configuring a Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC)
The Wireless MAXg ADSL Gateway supports the following five ISP network operating modes over gateway ADSL interface:
* PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
* PPP over ATM (PPPoA)
* MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER)
* IP over ATM (IPoA)
* Bridging
The ISP network operating mode depends on the service provider's configuration on the Central Office side and Broadband Access Server (BRAS) for your ADSL line.
Your ISP should be able to provide the following, if needed:
* VPI/VCI values
* ADSL standard (Modulation)
* Encapsulation mode
* Authentication (PAP or CHAP), user name, and password for PPP connections
So, from the above five modes, Bridging mode works fine, but then I have to use a separate router to set up my WAN settings (static IP address, etc.)
However, if I want to use the router part of it, I need to select one of the other 4 available modes.
Static IP does not require authentication, so it's not one of the two top PPP protocols, which leaves me with:
* MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER)
* IP over ATM (IPoA)
IP over ATM (IPoA) seems as the logical choice as it allows me to enter static IP/subnet/gateway/DNS. However, I get Sync- no surf - no gateway pings while using this mode.
Maybe I have my other parameters set incorrectly?
I have VPI/VCI set to 0/35, Modulation g.DMT.
Not sure if I have encapsulation set correctly. The choices are LLC/SNAP and VC/MUX.
Anything else that I'm missing?
Thanks,
SL

OK, I got it working with MAC Encapsulated Routing (MER) and LLC/SNAP encapsulation.
Thanks.
