[Availability] Loaded Lines..??
Everyone in my neighborhood can get dsl except for me. I asked an engineer in my area and he told me i have loaded lines (coiled lines designed for better voice quality but unable to carry dsl signal) and he would have to switch it over to an unloaded line before i would be able to get dsl and im also 22,000 ft. away from the hub.
My next door neighbor (100 ft. away from my house) is able to get it so i dont think the distance should be too much of a problem.
Has anyone ever been told this and if so how long should/may this take to switch me over to an unloaded line?
I live in rural south mississippi. I've been waiting for dsl for years now.

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
The engineer is correct. you are probably assigned a pair from the central office that is loaded. they will have to send a tech out to change your pair to one that isn't, depending on if they have any spare pairs. This process may take some time depending on how busy the techs are. be patient, keep checking the website to see if it is available. if after a week still nothing call back the person you spoke to and ask the status.

yeah I was called back and a tech told me he would come out and cut me out of the loaded line. He told me that i would not be able to get the extreme 6.0 but i could get the 3.0 just fine, which is fine with me being that i have been waiting on dsl to be avaliable in my area for YEARS.
Is this process done at the pole in my yard? I live in a very rural area.

Most likely it's going to be before your yard, either in one place or multiple places.

This will be done at the crossbox, they will change you off of a loader feeder pair to an unloaded feeder pair.

Is there anyway i can tell where the cross box would be?
Is it in the same thing as the dsl control box?

Could be in the same location, not in the same cabinet. cross box usually is green in color but could be beige, should have an address on it

It may be that way there, but a lot of places, here included don't have the luxury of both in copper cable any longer. It usually takes a job to actually unload pairs now.

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
Well the engineer said it is not an easy task by any means and he would have to "cut me out of the loaded pair". does that literally mean cut my line out of the bundle of the other lines?

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
Well i have an update on my problem. I talked to my insider at at&t (my cousin) and he said that the major problem is that all the lines on my road are loaded. Here in the past few days i have seen at&t trucks working on and around my road. i'm hoping that they are cutting me out of the loaded lines but i have no idea. all i can do is wait i guess. could that be what they are doing?
any responses are welcome and appreciated.

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
Sounds like it's under way. The facility techs are visiting each splice case where the load coils spliced in along the cable, and cutting them out. Of course, the spices have to carefully reclosed, in a weatherproof fashion. The load coils are in a cylindrical case, attached to the pole usually. I moved a few, from old or broken poles, to new poles while I was an outside plant tech.
A load coil is a little ferrite doughnut with a fine wire wound through the hole and around the torus, for 88 milliHenry. I don't recall their series resistance in Ohms. One goes in the Tip side, and one in the Ring side of each loaded pair, each in series. This cancels out the capacitance of the long twisted pair, improving the voice band frequency response; this kills any good response above 4 KHz.

Just a quick question, (ignore the other arrows on the picture unless you know what they are too lol) does that one that I pointed to on the picture below look like a Load Coil like the ones youve seen? It might be my problem too

The item in question is a terminal and is there for dropping off service to nearby residences. No load coil in that shot.

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
the middle line is a 25 pr cable and the bottom line is a fiber optic line.

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
The "what's that" arrow to the right of the pole, second cable from the ground, is the splice where the aerial terminal (pole mounted, below all cable) is connected to the 25-pair cable. The arrow on the third cable, left of the pole, is a CATV terminal.
The cable passing overhead of the camera, passing in front of the power transformer, exiting the top of the frame, is a drop from the aerial terminal, to the customer's house behind the camera.

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
Yeah that fiber optic line is what confuses me, people have told me that doesnt necessarily mean DSL is available.. but that fiber line could easily support a DSL / Uverse connection.. ive been told on another forum that since my dialup connects at 28.8k that I might be on whats called a "Digital Split" and this might be able to be corrected, anyone know anything about this?

Ok left to right top to bottom.
At the very top on the left of the transformer is a concentric neutral primary feed to more than likely a nearby pad mounted transformer.
The cable line is feeding an amp with a tap on the right of the amp.
The cable marked phone line looks to me like a 50 pair cable which enters a hard case and from that splice case a pole mounted 25 pair Tyco aerial terminal is being fed.
The lower cable appears to be lashed fiber based on the yellow tag just below the strand support on the pole.
Any more questions?

What do you think the purpose of that fiber line is? Also I have figured out how long it has been there, I checked its power meter 2 days in a row at the same time then divided the power used in 1 day by the total power used, it appears that VRAD looking box and the fiber line have been there about 326 days (around 10 months). We still have no UVerse availability or DSL. :l

Shouldnt we qualify for UVerse or DSL though since that fiber line goes right past me and connects to the VRAD looking thing like 800ft from my house?

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??

A VRAD is normally installed adjacent to a cross connect box. A cross connect is a neighborhood feeder which connects an F1 copper span to the F2 feeder spans (also copper) in a neighborhood. In a typical Uverse deployment, fiber is pulled to the VRAD (usually underground ,but ...) Then the VRAD is tied to the cross connect to distribute the VDSL and IPTV over the F2 copper to the neighborhood. You would call the VRAD box the, "node", and the type of deployment as, "Fiber To The Node" (FTTN). So, if that line is fiber, it could just be feeding the VRAD, and not distributing to the neighborhood.

Even so, the VRAD is like right next to my house.. and yes it is right next to a cross connect box and has a power meter. Why do we not qualify for UVerse? :\ its been there for 10 months already

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
All I can say, at this point, is post a "pre-qualification" request in the AT&T Direct forum. If the database is in error, the techs their could force the issue.
Beyond that, I've seen a VRAD take nearly a year just to get the power meter installed; and heard that it can take as long as a year from a VRAD going on the pad until service is ready.

Not here. Third level told us there were no taped openings left and he's got to be right. He's the same guy that told us that they could replace us all with someone off the street and a couple of weeks training.

Well based on that comment I guess he must know more than both of us combined so it must be true.
I would post something sarcastic in this point but since this is a family forum I will pass on that verbiage for now. ;-)

Re: [Availability] Loaded Lines..??
I know a lady that can step out her door and throw a rock and hit the vrad. However, the cable leaves the vrad going opposite from the direction of her house. It circles around the block ergo putting her on the end of one of the legs of cable. Out of limits for uverse. She is very unhappy.

ok well i have followed all of the lines around my road and i have seen nothing that looks like a load coil or load coil transformer, or atleast i think i haven't.
i live on a road directly off of a main road (which i can still see very easily) and everyone on the main road has dsl. the only person on my road with dsl is my next door neighbor (125ft away from my house at the most). where would the load coil be? on my road or somewhere on the main road?

Well you mentioned everyone on the "main road" has DSL, so there probably isnt a load coil there, or they wouldnt qualify either. So if there is one then it must be on your road somewhere. You did mention that the tech said your 22,000 ft from the local office or DSLAM, but your neighbor is able to qualify.. I suppose its possible your neighbor got lucky and is on an unloaded or closer loop to the DSLAM.. Im really no expert on this yet myself but I wonder if you could possibly be switched over to a line that qualifies? :l

I doubt you will find loads on the subscriber side of the crossbox, the last load needs to be 3Kf away from the subscriber to work properly.

You live in lucedale,ms correct? If so I doubt this is a vrad. It might be a rt with a dslam but from pictures all you can do is guess whats inside the boxes and I would guess there is no dslam in there.I wouldnt also be suprised if that fiber doesnt feed that rt also.
