westell 6100 + dslx, in texas
I've recently signed on with DSL Extreme, and am trying to finish up the configuration. My dsl modem shows that it has a DSL signal (solid green light), but it won't connect to the internet. After filling out the PPP details in the modem, it attempts to connect, but results with a "Timeout while connecting PPP. Try connecting again." Needless to say, subsequent attempts did not change anything.
Before I get too deep in to it, I'll mention that I am at work right now, but the first thing I intend to try when I get home is to enter in my username@dslextreme.com, as I had only entered my username before (no @dslextreme.com). Could this be what is holding me up?
In general, I have reset the modem while connected to the dsl link, and it appears to do some amount of auto configuration. It sets itself up with PPPoE, etc. (as opposed to Bridged, etc.). I have noticed that there are no addresses for the IP addresses under the PPPoE settings, only 0.0.0.0 for all of them, including the DNS servers. However, it's a dynamic IP plan that I am paying for, so...
I have the VC 0/35 stuff set up (was also auto-configured).
Am I missing something obvious? Is there somewhere I can get a hold of the modem settings for my connection? I'm in Texas, DSL Extreme is contracting with Verizon where I am, so it's a Verizon line. The only setup instructions I found on the DSLX site were for configuring Windows for PPPoE, but that seems so very unnecessary to me if the modem can do it. If that turns out to be the path I have to take, the settings for the modem for that situation would be appreciated as well :) (I'm guessing Bridged Router something...)

Hi Krisvek,
I would have to look-up the account in question to verify for sure whether you are PPPoE or DHCP but it sounds like you are in a PPPoE area.
When using pppoe it is necessary to use the full username as username@dslextreme.com or it will not let you connect. So when you get home try that and then get in touch with us if that doesnt work.

Thanks for the response. I'll try that when I get home, but if it doesn't work, it'll be tomorrow before I can let ya know :) (because I won't have internet at home, heh)
Should the PPPoE setup figure out it's own IP address stuff once I have entered the correct username?

Hi Krisvek,
Yes. The IP setting in the modem should be set to be obtained automatically. It wouldn't hurt to put our DNS servers in the modem although the modem should be able to connect and obtain the DNS automatically.,
