Westell 6100 DSL2 Bridge Issues
I've had a hard time getting online the past week and found out that it was my ISP's fault. Now that my connection is working fine and the speed is where it is supposed to be, I've tried watching some online videos to test it out.
I've tried videos on youtube.com and metacafe.com
Every video I watch after it gets to about 5 or 10 seconds, it stops and starts to buffer/load for about 15 seconds. Then it will play for another 5 seconds then stop and buffer for another 15/20 seconds. I tried watching videos in quicktime and windows media player and I am getting the same issue. I am using the modem given to my by my ISP. I have also tested loading and playing streaming videos on 2 other computers in my home. I've also made sure I've had the latest flash for the youtube videos thinking that might've been the issue. But I keep getting the same issue on all computers. Any advice would be super! Thanks. =)

That sounds like line issues causing packet loss. And then the stream hangs until the lost packet is resent.

So would that be a problem that my ISP can fix?

If it's a line issue, it might be something you could fix, or it might need to be fixed by AT&T or whomever lines your ISP uses. First be sure you have DSL filters every place a phone is plugged into a jack. Then unplug all phones to see if that fixes the problem. If it does, replug each phone one at a time until the problem recurs which will indicate the last phone plugged in has a bad phone jack. If unplugging all phones doesn't fix the problem, it means the line problem is elsewhere, and you probably need to contact your ISP and/or AT&T or whomever lines the ISP uses.

That depends on whether the problem is in your house wiring, or in the external line to the house.
You should be able to check line statistics from the modem. If there is a NID available outside the residence, try connecting there and again check the statistics. That should help narrow down where the problem is.

Plug 1 computer into the modem and then check your speed to the closest speed test site.
Determining speed by how well a video plays isn't really a good test. A computer downloading something on your network would cause this same issue especially if it was using most of your connection speed.

Re: Westell 6100 DSL2 Bridge Issues
Okay, thanks guys. I've spoken with my ISP and after some tests, it appears that the one major is the ethernet cable from the modem to the router. I'll be replacing that, and hopefully all is well. Thanks again.
