[Line Problem] Can heat cause the copper to malfunction?
Friend of mine has been having trouble on his 6M/dsl line the folks he is talking to at AT&T are blaming the copper wires getting hot and not being able to handle the heat of the summer temps?
Really?
Would love to hear from one of the well known techs if this is really an issue.

It can be. Increased heat results in increased resistance in the wire, which increases signal attenuation. It can affect a line that's marginal to begin with.

In my area the heat tends to be more of a problem for the dslam than the copper pr. The dslams reach a certain temp and cut off to keep from over heating then turn back on once the temp sensor thinks it is cooled off enough. This cycle repeats till the outside temp drops low enough to allow the cabinet to cool off. I have seen three sites with this problem, they were all installed in the winter and worked fine in the winter, but when the summer heat hit it caused problems. The new fans in two cabinets and AC in one hut solved the problem.

My connection is in the crapper the last day or so.
I went from 2900 down to 1900 down in the Xtreme 3.0 plan.
Not too Xtreme :(

Hehe, I worked in the Mississippi Delta years ago and that's the only place I can recall having covers and awnings over all the SLC sites.

They will not put the awnings in place in my work area. The bosses say they can not get them with the correct wind rating.
