how much downtime involved?

hi,
i currently have att pro dsl. i wanted to switch names on the account, but att says that i can't do that without canceling my internet which would take 2 weeks before i could sign up again. so i've been looking into dslexteme since prices are cheaper anyways. i see that there is an option to authorize dslextreme to take over my dsl. however, i was wondering if any downtime will be involved. thanks!

Hi techkid31,

The same downtime would apply. You cant place an order to connect new DSL on an account that is going through a name change. Changing the name starts a disconnect order with ATT and until that order clears nobody can place an order to re-connect the DSL until the that order clears which usually takes a week.

Since you have to change the name anyway you could order a new number and order DSL on the new number right away (perhaps even having both DSL lines active for a period of time) And then cancel DSL on the old number once the DSL is up and running on the new number.
