Combiner/Splitter w/ DirecTV
Here is the scenario:
One RG6 cable run into my home office. Currently the cable signal runs from the outside box, to the attic and down to the office.
I have a DirecTV feed into my family room. From the family room I run the output of the receive back into the attic (in order to watch the same receiver in multiple rooms).
What I would like to do is combine (in the attic) the output of the receiver into the cable line then spit it back out in the office. One to the modem and the other to a TV.
Is this possible? It seems from the faq that I can split it out w/o a problem but combining the signals may be an issue.

you talking the output of the receiver? on coax? it's on channel three.... the cable system has it's own separate channel three. you would have about the worst co-channel(ghosting, beats, funky lines etc etc etc)

I agree with odog. Not a good idea and a LOT of co-channel type problems.

I am not using cable TV though, only the modem. The TV portion is filtered at the box (at least I am assuming it is, as I am not paying for cable TV). That is why I was thinking it would work since that frequency probably would be open.

try it a see what happens... if you indeed having nothing occupying that frequency it "should" work. how well it works is another issue. as inserting this video could wreak havoc with the forward digital carrier.

I suggest that you try substituting a television set for your cable modem. You can see whether your cable company has blocked your access to its cable tv channels. In Las Vegas, I believe that the cable modem only users can access the lowest tier cable channels. (I switched to DSL service some time ago. I did not personally check to verify whether those cable channels are actually present on the line to the cable modem.)

I'm sure you could get a filter to block channel 3 from the cable. In fact, you would want the exact same filter that they should have on your drop!

I dropped everything but my CM as well. They put a string of filters in line 18" long!! Stripped out everything below 500MHz.
